: mini wood lathe, whether for use in the home or in industry, are used to turn a piece of wood stock. The wood stock or work pieces must be held firmly and accurately in place for the machine to rotate the turning. This turning can be held to the motor drive by either a sharp drive point or a chuck. The wood lathe chuck, either a three jaw or four jaw can hold a work piece independently of the supporting tailstock. Significance wood lathe chucks allow the wood turner to completely support the wood piece to be turned on a lathe. The chuck is a mechanical device that closes a set of metal jaws around the work piece or wood. A chuck key is used to drive a set of internal gears in the chuck that closes the jaws. The chuck key is a simple T-handle tool with a square head that fits into the jaw closing mechanism. Function Small pieces of wood can be placed into a wood lathe chuck and be turned on a lathe. This allows the freedom from not having to use the tailstock to support the other end of the piece to be turned. With the tailstock out of the way and the work piece firmly supported in the chuck, small pieces or bowls can be turned on the wood lathe. Types The three-jaw chuck allows the user to automatically center a piece of wood in the lathe. The work piece will have to be somewhat symmetrical as the final product will be rounded to the center of the jaws. The four-jaw chuck allows the user to manipulate the work piece so it can be turned off center. The four-jaw chuck is still controlled by a chuck key. But each jaw in the four-jaw chuck is independently controlled. Where as in the operation of the three jawed chuck, all the jaws move in or out together, regardless of the drive key hole that is used. Size Wood lathe chucks come in a variety of sizes depending on the size of the lathe and the work piece to be turned. Very small chucks or jewelers chucks are utilized for turning small stock or delicate woodworking. These chucks may be as small as to hold only 1-inch or smaller stock. Large jaws may be capable of holding 24-inch diameter material for the turning of large bowls or intricate posts. Of course these lathes will also have long tables and be driven by high horsepower motors. Warning As with any tool that removes wood and rotates parts at high speed, precautions should be taken. Be sure to follow the owner’s manual on the proper operation of the lathe machine and any accessories that you may purchase.

: Wood lathe chuck can be traced back to about 700 B.C. from fragments found in Scotland and from an Etruscan tomb. While many suspect that wood lathe chuck was practiced much earlier, experts cannot tell if the wood that they have found from Egyptian tombs was turned or hand shaped. A painting on Egyptian papyrus from roughly the third century B.C. shows the first picture that has been found to date of a lathe. This lathe was a vertical lathe that required two operators to run correctly. By the Middle Ages, wood lathe chuck was an accepted craft. Associations for turners were formed, one being the English Association of Turners, established in 1478. During the early 1700s, wood lathe chuck became a fad for the French aristocracy. With the advent of the French Revolution, the craze moved to England. During this time, England became the center of wood lathe chuck for both hobbyists and professionals, laying the groundwork for the transformation of wood lathe chuck from a craft into an industry in the 1800s. When motors were added to lathes during the Industrial Revolution, turners were able to make their goods more quickly while simultaneously maintaining quality. More products are wood lathe chuck than you may realize. Wooden table legs, bowls, and serving trays are made using wood lathe chuck techniques. Chess pieces, pool cues, mechanical pencils and baseball bats made of wood can be the result of wood lathe chuck .Artwork can also be created through wood lathe chuck. What is a wood lathe chuck?

:Jet is a brand of shop tools, usually power tools such as table saws, band saws, planers, jointers, and so forth. This is a well-known brand and it has a reputation for producing high quality machines. Serious woodworkers are very likely to have at least one Jet-brand machine in their shops. A lathe is a tool that holds a piece of wood at its two ends and spins it, allowing the woodworker to use special knives to make various kinds of cuts. The fancy round spindles on chairs or tables have been made on a lathe. Woodworkers use lathes to create all kinds of projects, from bowls to finials—anything that is essentially a column. A mini lathe is a small form of the regular lathe. It is what is known as a bench-top machine—it can fit easily on a workbench or even a table. Woodworkers want mini lathes for jobs that are too small for the large lathe. For example, many woodworkers like to make pens and put fountain pen fittings in them to create a luxurious and impressive writing implement. Wood for a mini lathe costs less than wood for a larger lathe. If you want to try out some exotic and expensive wood, a mini lathe will allow you to make a pen out of it for a lot less than the amount of wood needed for a larger project. Also a wood lathe is good for new woodworkers because it allows them to learn the techniques of using a lathe without wasting large, expensive pieces of wood. A jet mini lathe is a very handy tool that meets the needs of beginners and advanced woodworkers.
